In the spring of 2022, as New York City emerged from the pandemic, I went looking for interesting streetwear to photograph - only to find a sea of sneakers, sweatpants, and hoodies. Then I wandered down to the iconic St. Mark's Place and suddenly stepped into a street-style carnival, a full-blown fashion circus unfolding in real time.
By November 2023, I had completed the shooting phase of a personal project that grew out of that moment: 18 months, 52 weather-permitted afternoon sessions, at my makeshift sidewalk studio set up on the southwest corner of St. Mark's Place and 2nd Avenue in NY City's East Village.
Over that span, more than 300 visually compelling individuals stepped straight off the street and onto my backdrops, each bringing their own energy, personality, and spontaneity to this portrait adventure.
What you see here is only a small selection from a very large body of work. As you view these images, keep in mind that nothing was styled, every look came exactly as it appeared on the street.
